New subject editor for Opiliones (Arachnida)

Shahan Derkarabetian has joined the ZooKeys editorial team as a subject editor for Opiliones (Arachnida).

Shahan is the Curator of Entomology at the San Diego Natural History Museum, where he has been in this position since September 2023. He received his BS and MS in from San Diego State University, and his PhD in 2017 through the joint doctoral program at University of California, Riverside and San Diego State University. Shahan then did a postdoc at the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University.

His research has always focused on the systematics and evolutionary biology of Opiliones, and sometimes other arachnids. He has expertise in phylogenetic and phylogenomic methods, with a focus on incorporating museum specimens into phylogenomic analyses and incorporating machine learning into species delimitation. Shahan is lead or coauthor on four publications in ZooKeys to date, on Opiliones and spiders. He is excited about the prospect of being as subject editor for his favorite group of animals (Opiliones) at one of his favorite journals for systematics.
