Taxonomic study on Sinopoda Jäger, 1999 (Araneae, Sparassidae, Heteropodinae), with three new species from Korea https://zookeys.pensoft.net/article/85493/ ZooKeys 1114: 77-104

DOI: 10.3897/zookeys.1114.85493

Authors: Junho Chae, Jun-Gi Lee, Sam-Kyu Kim

Abstract: The genus Sinopoda Jäger, 1999 is a group of huntsman spiders (Araneae: Sparassidae: Heteropodinae), and currently seven species have been reported in Korea. In this study, three new species are described from Korea, Sinopoda bigibba sp. nov., Sinopoda bogil sp. nov., and Sinopoda pantherina sp. nov.; Sinopoda jirisanensis Kim & Chae, 2013 is revalidated with neotype designation, and had been formerly synonymized with Sinopoda forcipata (Karsch, 1881). Additionally, all previous records of Sinopoda stellatops Jäger & Ono, 2002 and S. forcipata from Korea are deemed misidentifications of S. jirisanensis and S. bogil sp. nov., respectively.

Establishing a new species group of Pseudopoda Jäger, 2000 with the description of two new species (Araneae, Sparassidae) https://zookeys.pensoft.net/article/35110/ ZooKeys 879: 91-115

DOI: 10.3897/zookeys.879.35110

Authors: He Zhang, Peter Jäger, Jie Liu

Abstract: The huntsman spider genus Pseudopoda Jäger, 2000 contains 140 species worldwide, of which 61 have been described from China. In this paper, this knowledge is increased by the description of two new species from Yunnan Province in China. These new species, P. physematosa sp. nov. (♀) and P. semilunata sp. nov. (♂♀), are treated with five previously described ones, P. bibulba Xu & Yin, 2000 (♂♀), P. signata Jäger, 2001 (♂♀), P. wu Jäger, Li & Krehenwinkel, 2015 (♂♀), P. yinae Jäger & Vedel, 2007 (♂), and P. yunnanensis Yang & Hu, 2001 (♂♀), as the newly defined Pseudopoda signata species group. The P. signata group can be distinguished from other groups within Pseudopoda by the male palps with long, slightly broad, S-shaped embolus, small but distinct tegular apophysis, pronounced dRTA and reduced vRTA, and by the female with V-shaped or W-shaped anterior margins of lateral lobes, membranous and wide first winding, long and strongly curved SIDS (sclerotised internal duct system), the latter mostly covered by the first winding. The monophyly of this group is also supported by molecular phylogenetic results mainly based on Chinese Pseudopoda species. In addition, photographs of P. bibulba (♂♀), P. signata (♂♀), and P. yunnanensis (♂♀) are provided. P. bibulba is newly recorded from Guizhou Province and P. signata is newly recorded from Yunnan Province.

Gnathopalystes aureolus (He & Hu, 2000): new combination for Pseudopoda aureola (Araneae, Sparassidae), with the first description of the female from Hainan Island, China https://zookeys.pensoft.net/article/29868/ ZooKeys 817: 95-103

DOI: 10.3897/zookeys.817.29868

Authors: Wei Ding, Yang Zhong, Jie Liu

Abstract: The taxonomic status of Pseudopoda aureola (He & Hu, 2000) is revised based on the re-examination of the type specimen and fresh material collected from the type locality. The cheliceral dentition, with a large denticle field between two anterior and three posterior teeth, the male palps with simple RTA arising distally, narrow, not filiform embolus and sheet-like membranous conductor, and the female epigyne with a visible median septum indicate that the species does not belong to Pseudopoda or to the originally assigned genus, Heteropoda. Based on these characters, the species is here transferred to Gnathopalystes. The male is redescribed and the female is described and illustrated for the first time.

An unexpected new species of the genus Pseudopoda (Araneae, Sparassidae, Heteropodinae) from the Western Ghats in India https://zookeys.pensoft.net/article/7848/ ZooKeys 577: 55-62

DOI: 10.3897/zookeys.577.7848

Authors: Peter Jaeger, Siddharth Kulkarni

Abstract: A new species of the genus Pseudopoda is described from India: Pseudopoda ashcharya sp. n. Males are characterised by the absence of the conductor and females are unique within the genus in having the lateral lobes of their epigyne fused. The systematic relationship of the new species is discussed referring to its isolated occurrence in the Western Ghats.
