      <title>Introduction</title>
<p>The <tp:taxon-name>Tenebrionidae</tp:taxon-name> is the sixth largest families of beetles, with 1184 species known from North America (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Marske and Ivie 2003</xref>). Most species occur in arid regions of the southwestern United States, and only 141 species were recorded from Canada by <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Bousquet and Campbell (1991)</xref> and <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">Campbell (1991a)</xref>. Forty-eight species were reported from the Maritime provinces (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">Majka et al. 2008</xref>). There have been few recent revisions of genera that occur in Canada (<tp:taxon-name>Hymenochara</tp:taxon-name> - <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Campbell (1978b)</xref>; <tp:taxon-name>Mycetochara</tp:taxon-name> - <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Campbell (1978a)</xref>), and some members of this family can be difficult to determine to species.</p>
<p>Most <tp:taxon-name>Tenebrionidae</tp:taxon-name> occurring in eastern Canada are associated with forests and live in or are associated with dead wood; a few are subcortical. A number of species are associated with fruiting bodies of polypore fungi, and a few species are found on flowers and leaves. Most of our adventive species are stored product pests. For more details, see <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Aalbu et al. (2002)</xref>.</p>
<p><xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">Majka et al. (2008)</xref> reported 33 species of <tp:taxon-name>Tenebrionidae</tp:taxon-name> from New Brunswick, 13 as new to the province, in their review of the <tp:taxon-name>Tenebrionidae</tp:taxon-name> of the Maritime provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island). Here, we report 13 additional species for the province.</p>
      <p>The <tp:taxon-name>Zopheridae</tp:taxon-name>, which includes the <tp:taxon-name>Colydiidae</tp:taxon-name> (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Ślipiński and Lawrence 1999</xref>), contains only a few species in eastern Canada. Adults live under bark or in rotten wood, and some species feed on fruiting bodies of polypore fungi (<tp:taxon-name>Phellopsini</tp:taxon-name>) (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Ślipiński and Lawrence 1999</xref>; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B14">Ivie 2002</xref>). See <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B14">Ivie (2002)</xref> for a general review of the North American members of this family. Three species (<tp:taxon-name>Phellopsis obcordata</tp:taxon-name> (Kirby), <tp:taxon-name>Lasconotus borealis</tp:taxon-name> Horn, <tp:taxon-name>Synchita fuliginosa</tp:taxon-name> Melsheimer) were reported for the Maritime provinces (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Bousquet 1991</xref>; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">Campbell 1991b</xref>; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B16">Majka et al. 2006</xref>).
