These were collected from dry grassland habitats in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Brookhart and Brookhart 2006</xref>). These records are the basis for the estimate of four additional species remaining to be described from Canada (Table <xref ref-type="table" rid="T1">1</xref>).</p>
<p>Presently, there are six specimens in the Barcodes of Life Data (BOLD) System from British Columbia, represented by one Barcode Index Number (BIN) (Table <xref ref-type="table" rid="T1">1</xref>). These specimens are identified in BOLD as <tp:taxon-name><tp:taxon-name-part taxon-name-part-type="genus" reg="Eremobates">Eremobates</tp:taxon-name-part> <tp:taxon-name-part taxon-name-part-type="species" reg="gladiolus">gladiolus</tp:taxon-name-part></tp:taxon-name>, a junior synonym of <tp:taxon-name><tp:taxon-name-part taxon-name-part-type="genus" reg="Eremobates">E.</tp:taxon-name-part> <tp:taxon-name-part taxon-name-part-type="species" reg="scaber">scaber</tp:taxon-name-part></tp:taxon-name>.</p>
<p>The low species diversity of this order of arachnids in Canada can be attributed to the lack of suitable habitats and climatic conditions in these northern latitudes for a group adapted to dry, warm, xeric conditions with open, sandy soils (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">Punzo 1998</xref>). <tp:taxon-name><tp:taxon-name-part taxon-name-part-type="order">Solifugae</tp:taxon-name-part></tp:taxon-name> are best adapted to desert and semi-desert environments and are not well adapted to cold or temperate regions (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Cloudsley-Thompson 1977</xref>), although at least one species, <tp:taxon-name><tp:taxon-name-part taxon-name-part-type="genus" reg="Uspallata">Uspallata</tp:taxon-name-part> <tp:taxon-name-part taxon-name-part-type="species" reg="pulchra">pulchra</tp:taxon-name-part></tp:taxon-name> Mello-Leitão, 1938 (<tp:taxon-name><tp:taxon-name-part taxon-name-part-type="family">Mummuciidae</tp:taxon-name-part></tp:taxon-name>), has been reported from a high elevation site (3670 m) in Chile (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">Muma 1971</xref>).
