Recently, a significant number of specimens of this species have been accumulated by the first and third authors (KT and HA). Detailed morphological analysis revealed that this species has not been previously described; therefore, it is described and named here. In recent years, molecular phylogenetic analyses have been used to elucidate the phylogenetic relationships among species of <tp:taxon-name><tp:taxon-name-part taxon-name-part-type="genus" reg="Melita">Melita</tp:taxon-name-part></tp:taxon-name> (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B28">Tomikawa et al. 2022</xref>). The phylogenetic positions of the newly identified species in this study are also clarified.</p>

Molecular phylogenetic analyses were shown to be useful for inferring phylogenetic relationships among species of the genus and detecting undescribed species.</p>
